Private Wells: Flow Rate & Potability Testing
Alaska residential wells on the Peninsula range from shallow 30-foot driven sand points to 200+ foot drilled bedrock wells. As part of your purchase inspection, you should always commission a 4-hour well flow test and a comprehensive DEC water potability lab test.
Check for iron, manganese, arsenic, and coliform bacteria. Water filtration systems are common and easily installed, but knowing water quality up front is critical.
Septic Tanks & Drainfield Freeze Protection
In deep subzero winter snaps without snow cover, cold can penetrate deep into uninsulated pipes. A proper Alaska septic installation features insulated sewer lines, heat tape where needed, and a drainfield buried below the local frost line.
